Mike Baur endeavors to inspire and influence the creation of the next generation big Swiss companies by assisting the people of Switzerland leverage digital transformation to actualize their startup ideas. As such, he is passionate about working with Startups. Mike focuses on Startup acceleration, scouting and investing.
Entrepreneurship has shaped Mike Baur’s life since 2014. Together with two other partners, he co-founded the Swiss Start-up Factory, currently the leading privately financed and independent early stage Startup Accelerator that focuses on ICT in the country. The company purposes to identify successful digital entrepreneurs. The Zurich based company offers a three-month program for startups aimed at mentoring, coaching and incubating ideas. Also, Swiss Start-Up Factory offers office space, unique customized service, and a chance to network with other entrepreneurs. So far, the Swiss Startup Factory has held three successful accelerator programs and invested in up to 18 startups in the early stage. At the Swiss Start-up Factory, Mike oversees financing and fundraising rounds.
One of Mike life missions is to reduce the gap between the new and old economy to solve the hurdles in digital transformation and to help Swiss Companies overcome these obstacles. He is also a co-founder of the Swiss Startup Association an organization that champions for better regulatory and legal environment for startups and founders in Switzerland. Mike also serves as a Deputy Managing Director at the Swiss Startup Invest.
As a show of his commitment to increasing knowledge in the startup field, Mike speaks at different forums for universities, corporate and small businesses. Mike Baur is also the vice president of Innovation Lab Fribourg a platform that enables student entrepreneurs from natural sciences, engineering and business to develop new technologies through mentorship, training, and investments.
Mike holds an undergraduate degree in Finance, an MBA and an Executive MBA from the University of Applied Sciences Bern, the University of Rochester and Universitat Bern respectively. He began his early career life as an apprentice at UBS. For over 20 years, Mike served in different capacities in the Private Banking and rose to become an executive board member of a top bank in Switzerland. The experience in private banking helps him connect better with the corporate and startup world.
Mike is also a sports lover. He supports the Fribourg Gotteron, a hockey club from his hometown and actively follows Swiss Tennis Pros. He is fascinated by the similarities between top sports professionals and startup teams. Mike endeavors to learn more from his colleagues, startup experts, and investors around the world.
